In this C1 English-English Mediation Activity, students are asked to help a neighbor understand an email about a service they have hired. It is a C1 level intralinguistic (English-English) mediation task that has a real email as a source.

As part of their strategy training, in the pre-mediation section students are asked to expand the text by explaining several concepts to their interlocutor and also to highlight key ideas by using emphatic structures in a guided exercise.

This mediation activity is excellent to train several mediation strategies and microskills:

  • rephrasing
  • streamlining a text
  • selecting the key ideas
  • explaining new concepts
