In this B2.1 Intralinguistic (Spanish-English) Oral Mediation Task students are asked to read an article about the pros and cons of bilingual education and pass the information on to someone who does not have access to the information due to the language barrier. The situation is described in the task instructions and introduced by a WhatsApp message:

 

 

It is perfect to train students’ ability to select the relevant information for this particular situation and streamline a text. They will do so by means of several microskills like avoiding repetitions, expressing the ideas in fewer words, highlighting key information, as well as contrasting and drawing conclusions. Of course, they will also need to rephrase and adapt the message to the recipient.

This task has been designed so it can be used for B2.1 Mediation Exam Training, serving as training both for students and for teachers. For the latter, we have included in the Teacher’s Worksheet a guide with examples of the strategies and microskills that mediators are likely to use when they are relaying the message.
