The L2 Learner Identity

Level:
Topic: , ,
Keywords: ,

In this C2 Speaking Activitystudents talk about Language Learners’ Identities from the perspective of what learning English a second language implies, the relation between language and culture, and what it takes to become a really proficient speaker.

Students revise grammar contents like discourse markers of condition like so long as among others, Intensifying adverbs, and Cleft sentences for emphasis.

On this worksheet, we introduce the section Getting Informal, where you can find everyday expressions and concepts that will aid students in sounding more natural by using real everyday English.

Some C2 phrasal verbs to talk about the L2 Learner Identity are also given, like to cut sb off or keep up with, among others.

The C2 level vocabulary found on the worksheet is arranged in three sections, that is, nouns, verbs, and adjectives that they will need to discuss the topic. Several idioms and common expressions are also introduced, so students incorporate them into their active corpus.

This C2 Speaking activity includes speaking questions about mastering a second language, what strategies or conditions need to be developed and met so it does actually happen, their attitude towards the challenges they face as advanced learners, the relation between language and culture, and their own experience and opinions in this matter. This way, they will integrate all the contents on their worksheet while they talk.

As a BONUS you can also download the teacher and student’s feedback templates at the bottom of the download box. With them, you have highly effective ready-to-use templates to give your students well-structured individual feedback to take home. Students rave about them because once they see how easily and consistently their fossilized mistakes start vanishing, they can’t get enough of these templates with personalized feedback.
